Long-term thinking
Grant writing, fundraising and HR consulting for smaller nonprofits and businesses that don't have a development or HR team. Strategic advice when you need it, and someone to do the work when you need that.
I'm based in Connecticut and work mostly remotely.
Grant writing and fundraising for small nonprofits
- Grant research and writing
- Funders that fit your work, proposals written to their guidelines, and reports sent on time.
- Fundraising strategy
- Where the money should come from next year, beyond the next deadline.
- Program development
- Programs designed with clear outcomes, so they are easier to run and to fund.
- Organizational growth
- The systems and plans a small nonprofit needs as it adds staff and funders.
Youth sports grants
I've written and managed grants since 2018, first at Doc Wayne Youth Services and now for a soccer organization's charitable foundation. Funders rarely pay a club's operating costs, but free spots for kids who couldn't otherwise play, coaching and mentoring, and safe places to play fit what many of them fund.
I've also worked on the field: coaching with Husky Sport in Hartford's North End, a year with AmeriCorps Coach Across America, and sport-based therapy groups at Doc Wayne. When a funder asks what happens at practice, I can tell them.
HR consulting for small nonprofits and businesses
- Employee relations
- Help with the hard conversations, complaints and performance problems.
- Engagement and culture
- Finding out what staff think, and acting on it.
- Internal communications
- Updates and announcements that staff read and understand.
- Onboarding
- A first-week plan so every new hire starts the same way.
- Policies and processes
- Handbooks, policies and job descriptions that fit the size of your team.
I spent three years in HR at What If Media Group, finishing as Director of Employee Experience, and I hold an MSW from Boston College and the SHRM-CP. I'm not an attorney and this isn't legal advice. When a question needs an employment lawyer, I'll say so.
Fees
From $100 an hour. Project or retainer pricing can be agreed in writing before I start.
For grants, I never take a percentage of the award. The Grant Professionals Association's code of ethics rules it out, and most funders won't allow it.

The grant, the program or the staffing question, and the deadline if there is one. A link to your website is plenty for a first email.
